I’ve heard reports and seen jobs advertised for a new bar in York called The Botanist. Anyone who frequents Leeds will be familiar with the brand.
The Press report the bar is set to open in the old home of Mulberry Hall down Stonegate.
The drinks menu looks fresh, floral and natural with botanical herbs and fruits in almost every drink.
Cocktails include the Raspberry, Grape and Elderflower Cooler, the Watermelon Dew, Berry Good Times and The Watering Can (served in a watering can for groups to share). There’s also an extensive gin menu, ale cocktails and classic martinis.
“Our botanists have passionately developed unusual concoctions that illustrate and highlight the delicate, subtle and sometimes very strong flavours that our best greenhouse herbs are able to give. Indulge in interesting combinations of fresh fruit and citrus juice that we press ourselves alongside much more that mother nature has to offer. We welcome one and all to explore and push the boundaries, you might just discover something new.”
The food looks good too and covers most of the basics you’d want from a cocktail infused night out including some nice looking deli boards, home comforts and BBQ dishes. Baked chocolate chip cookie dough with salted caramel and toffee ice cream or elderflower jelly and red berry pavlova with raspberry ripple ice cream would finish the meal off nicely!
We’ll see what happens and head down sample these cocktails for ourselves as soon as it opens 🙂

UPDATE: This is a nice little place with a great atmosphere and they’ve managed to keep the busy bar separate from the more chilled out eating area. The food is basically pub food but with a few extra little touches that make it enjoyable such as interesting serving methods, textures and flavours.
We enjoyed a sweet potato and lentil pie with curry sauce as well as a hanging chicken kebab with garlic butter – both delicious. Plus, the deserts were lovely – cookie dough and ice cream, hanging brownie, mallow and strawberry kebab with biscuit sauce plus a white chocolate and peanut butter mousse that came topped with a popping candy ginger crumb.
We had a 25% voucher so without it perhaps it might have been a little pricey. I enjoyed it though so will be heading back there – especially because all chips came with optional cheese 😉
