Lady Anne Middletons Hotel is a luxury hotel situated in the centre of York. Comprising of a cluster of 6 historic buildings including an old organ factory and a 17th-century former hospital, this sophisticated hotel is packed full of character.
We recently visited Middletons hotel for Sunday lunch, celebrating my Dad’s birthday. We were seated in the Sawmill Restaurant, and ordered smoked salmon, vegetable soup and black pudding salad for starters. The smoked salmon was tasty but a little unimaginative, simply being smoked salmon paired with a tiny amount of lettuce, horse radishes and mayo. The vegetable soup was lovely and warming, and the black pudding salad was to die for!
For the roast itself, there was a choice of turkey, pork, beef or vegetable wellington on offer. All of the trimmings were self-serve, including Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, crackling, gravy (meat or vegetarian) roast potatoes and a wide selection of vegetables. The beef looked and tasted lovely but was unfortunately a little on the tough side, however the turkey was cooked to perfection. The vegetable wellington was delicious too.
The atmosphere in Middletons felt very family-friendly. We noticed that the waiting staff were being very accommodating to a large group with young children, serving them up bowls filled with whatever they wanted (mainly mashed potato, it seemed)!
The Traditional Sunday Lunch is available as a set-priced menu:
