Bishopthorpe Road is well known in York for being a great place full of wonderful eateries.

We recently visited Robinsons Cafe, an independent family-run cafe serving homemade food, coffee and cakes.

Run by Will Pearce and Rebecca Toppin, Robinsons offers delicious food made from locally-sourced ingredients. As breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, we couldn’t resist trying some of their breakfast/brunch dishes. Their menu features some more unusual looking items such as Chorizo & Parma Ham Hash and Halloumi & Mushroom Burger.

We arrived soon after opening and the cafe was already full, we had to wait a few minutes for a table which we didn’t mind. The atmosphere was cosy & bustling and the staff and customers were all very friendly.

We ordered avocado & roasted tomatoes on sourdough with poached eggs, croque monsieur with salad & onion chutney and creamy truffle mushrooms & poached egg on toasted sourdough. The creamy truffle mushrooms were to die for, possibly the tastiest breakfast I’ve ever eaten. To finish we sampled one of their superb locally supplied coffees.

If you wish to try breakfast at Robinsons Cafe I would recommend arriving early! I can’t wait to return to try some of their delicious looking cakes.
